24 hr Shear-a-Thon

The ‘24hr Shear Madness’ team are back at it again in 2023 and will be raising funds for LET'S TALK!

The last two events attracted widespread interest from the community, both local and abroad with hundreds attending the event and over eight thousand watching the live stream on social media.

This year, the event is even bigger with a total of six shearers accepting the challenge.

Josh and Brandon Bone from Nhill and Phil Edwards a local southwest shearer will be joining Roger, Corey, and Brody Mifsud on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th of December at the Warrnambool Showgrounds.

These shearers and their teams will put their bodies on the line, shearing for 24 hours, in a spectacle not to be missed, all whilst raising funds for LET'S TALK.

How it started:

The first ever 24hr Shear Madness event held in 2018 was the brain-child of local father and son shearers Roger and Corey Mifsud. Together they shore a total of 1,542 sheep to raise much needed awareness and funds for Muscular Dystrophy. A total of $45,000 was raised and was shared between the Gillian Boys Foundation and Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation.

Following the Covid Pandemic, in 2021 the boys were back at it again, this time with brother Brody joining Corey and Roger. This second event was about raising funds and awareness for children with special needs, including for Corey’s own son with Autism. Together the three Mifsud’s set out to beat the previous year’s tallies, shearing 2,822 sheep and raising a staggering $78,252. The proceeds from this event went to Merri River School in Warrnambool, Skene Street School in Stawell and programs that Mpower facilitate for carers of children with special needs.

The aim is to beat previous efforts and raise $100,000 for the LET’S TALK Foundation.

New to the schedule this year, we will be hosting ‘Meet & Greet’ events prior to the Shear-a-thon, for an opportunity for sponsors and the community to meet the incredible shearers and teams behind this event, and learn more about LET’S TALK and the important community work this foundation does!

Partnering with LET’S TALK we expect immense interest from the community and are planning more fun and exciting activities to attract people to the event, including live entertainment, food, bar, kid’s activities, raffles, a goods and services auction and silent auction.
